I Think I Got Dumped By My Makeup Artist

Breakups are the worst especially when you are on the receiving end. No one wants their heart broken but it can be especially devastating when it’s not by your Boo. As a Freelance Makeup Artist and Hair Stylist in South Florida, I’ve heard it all when it comes to clients’ requests or excuses. I laugh daily with other freelance Artists who also share similar stories with me and let me just tell you…This is exactly why we do not call you back!!! ‪#‎byefelicia‬ ‪#‎officiallydumped‬ ‪#‎findsomeonewhocares‬ Here is a list of reasons and situations for why you didn’t get that call back for your next appointment.

1) You graduated from college, you are recently single, and you won the lottery in 5 states so you want a new look and this is what you request:
To look 20 years younger and 10lbs skinnier with lips like Kylie Jenner and eyes like Noah Cyrus and for all of the makeup to be good for your skin, organic, vegan, cruelty free, paraben free, and lasts all day and night without having to have any touchups so you can make your friends and exboyfriend really really reallyyyyyyyy jealous of your super good new looks…

2) You are turning 39 again for the 40th year in a row and to celebrate you decide to pamper yourself with a makeover. This is what you request:
Foundation that will not settle into your botox injected…I mean youthful and radiant skin because heaven forbid the makeup age your face. Also, to have eyebrows that do not look drawn or painted on and last all day and all night and not melt off out in the Florida sun from 1pm-5pm on a cloudless day out on your yacht.

3) You are a beaUUUUtiful bride, flawless, like an angel, anything but a bridezilla and you schedule your bridal trial and this is what happens:
You show up 2 hours late because you were SO busy but think it’s ok because it’s not like it’s a doctor’s appointment and you texted us saying how you are SO sorry. You arrive and tell us how you have SO many ideas and SO many pictures on your Pinterest Board and then proceed to show aaaaalllllllllllllllllll the pictures as well as google more. You let us do your makeup over and over again because you just can’t decide on what you want and start crying every time you look in the mirror because you are SO happy. You decided to invite your Mom, Mother in Law, Sister, and BFF to your trial to help you decide yet they all have different ideas of how they think you should look and openly argue with each other and you about every single makeup detail. You tell us how you are SO laid back and chill and a very natural makeup kind of girl so show us pictures of Kim Kardashian.

Hope these all made you LOL! Here are some tips to help you have the most awesome relationship with your Makeup Artist and have smooth appointments.

1) Show up on time. If you realize that you are going to be more than 10 minutes late, either call and reschedule or call to let the artist know how late you will actually be. Show how much you appreciate their time by leaving a nice tip. Time is money and when’s you’re late you’re wasting theirs.

2) Have realistic expectations. Stay away from the celebrity pictures where they have clearly had botox or face lifts. Their makeup looks great yes, but their contouring and full lips were also surgically enhanced.

3) Have your lunch, snack, or drink before or after your appointment. When has the smell of Taco Bell been appealing? Or the condensation of your iced coffee dripping everywhere? Our makeup products are very expensive and very valuable to our career, not to mention, a necessity. Having everything 100% clean and sanitary is vital in order for us to guaranty each client the best makeover. One spill of your coffee onto our products can cost hundreds of dollars to replace not mention lost work.

4) If you know you are indecisive about a makeup look or know that you are “that person” who is difficult to work with, talk to your friends and family about your ideas before your appointment. You want reassurance from the ones who matter the most. This gives you a better direction to go in and narrows down your vision. Hence, less stress during your appointment. If you bring someone with you, make sure they are also on the same page.

5) Makeup is fun and the best part???…It’s not permanent!!! This is our career and if you don’t like something, don’t be afraid to tell us. We want you to look and feel your absolute best and we want to have an open and honest relationship with you. The foundation of every relationship is Trust. So trust us with our opinions and don’t be afraid to ask questions.

Hope this helps! Have the most beautiful day! xoxo
